WBF Announces 2010 Istanbul Backgammon Championship

The Worldwide Backgammon Federation (WBF) has just sent out a press release announcing details on the 2010 Istanbul Backgammon Open Championship to be held at the Gunes Hotel in Istanbul, Turkey from January 22 to 24, 2010. See the press release published below.


Dear Backgammon Fans,

We will be waiting for you at the upcoming 2010 Istanbul Open Backgammon Championship scheduled at the Gunes Hotel (Nadide Caddesi Gunay Sokak No:1 Merter / Istanbul – ph. 0090 212 483 30 30) from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th January, 2010. It's the best way to start the Backgammon activity in the 2010 Capital of the European Culture and, of course, the Capital of Backgammon!

The highlights of the schedule are:
- it's the very first international-style, modern backgammon tournament to be held with our WBF-Turkey branch in our nine-year relationship;

- one category, three flights (Main, Consolation, Last Chance) in the Main event and seven different side events;

- the draw will be manual (not computerized) and will be public and random for all categories;

- no clocks will be used during the tournament;

- no money prizes according to governmental laws, however a huge prize-pool of prizes such as free trips to other 2010 WBF international events, holiday trips, electronic devices and many others worth more than a total of 6000 Euros;

- the tournament will be played on professional tournament boards;

- on Friday 22nd January, 2010 we will have a Welcome Cocktail in the Gunes Hotel, Warm-Up, 869 BG CUP and the start of Main event;

- on Saturday 23rd January, 2010 we will play the Consolation Tournament, Doubles Consultation and Swing actions;

- on Sunday 24th January, 2010 we will play the Finals, the Last Chance Tournament and the Awards Ceremony in the Gunes Hotel.
